1.      RELEASE FROM A DOUBLE ARM GRAB

·       Attacker grabs both of Defender’s forearms

·       Raise both hands in an inward sweep, like praying, to break hold.  (This is not done with strength.)

·       Grab Attacker’s wrists and do a front kick to stomach.

·       Release Attacker’s wrists and grab behind Attacker’s head, with fingers overlapping, but not interlaced.

·       Bring attacker’s head down onto right knee kick.

·       Do a right vertical punch to Attacker’s face, then a right elbow strike to Attacker’s chin.

2.     RELEASE FROM A RIGHT SHOULDER GRAB (Youth/novice Version)

·       Spin to left and execute a left elbow strike to Attacker’s left jaw.  **See Note

·       Loop left arm over Attacker’s right arm, just above their elbow, standing in a horse stance.

·       Do a right ridge hand to the neck/upper body.

·       At the same time, step with right foot behind Attacker’s right leg and sweep Attacker to the floor with right leg.

·       **  If attacker is sufficiently taller than defender, do not do elbow strike.  Continue to spin to the left, do a reach-in strike with right hand to Attacker’s throat.

3.    RELEASE FROM A LEFT SHOULDER GRAB (Youth/novice Version)

·       Spin to right and execute a right elbow strike to Attacker’s right jaw.   **See Note

·       Loop right arm over Attacker’s left arm, just above their elbow, standing in a horse stance.

·       Do a left ridge hand to the neck/upper body.

·       At the same time, step with left foot behind Attacker’s left leg and sweep Attacker to the floor with left leg.

·       **  If attacker is sufficiently taller than defender, do not do elbow strike.  Continue to spin to the right, do a reach-in strike with left hand to Attacker’s throat.

4.    DEFEND AGAINST AN OVERHEAD ATTACK

·       Step back w/ right leg into front stance while executing high X Block (with right hand closest to body & inside of wrists touching)

·       Grab Attacker’s right wrist with your right hand and lock.  Step into horse stance to the side of the attacker while swinging hands low and to the front.  Attacker’s palm should be facing up.

·       Do a right front kick to Attacker’s head.

·       Step back into front stance, keep right hand holding Attacker’s right wrist, while doing a downward palm-heel strike to Attacker’s left elbow.

·       Slide left hand down Attacker’s right arm to wrist, then turn hand so palm is facing up and toward attacker.  Defender’s thumbs should be on back of their hand at 12:00 position.  Rotate their wrist outward.

·       Do a right front kick to groin, followed by right leg sweep to back of Attacker’s right leg.  (Execute these two moves without putting your right foot down.)
